White Horse Woes

1 min read

The problem with the White Horse is this: on Monday night I went to a folkie session there. It was double booked (until 9pm) with a political meeting. So I thought it prudent to check our booking for Wednesday. There was none, but it was then duly recorded in their  diary, with my phone number in case there was any problem. However, last night we arrived to find that a party had been booked and we were not welcome.

I remonstrated (well, got a bit radge actually), insisted that the manager was phoned - the usual futile nonsense. They claimed they would have phoned me if they’d had my number, but at that point noses got longer and pants were on fire.

The bottom line is that we cannot trust the WH to honour a booking if a better offer comes along. We can’t trust them to contact us if they are going to take up the better offer.

I’d welcome views on what the next step should be. I’m not happy to continue assuring people that the event is on when that can’t necessarily be delivered (for example last night I told Beryl an hour before that it was definitely on, only to give her a wasted journey).

Since we’re now in a holiday period, when numbers might be low, we should suspend operations for a week or two and then think about a new venue.
