Anyone with new songs?

1 min read

Back to The Kilderkin tomorrow (Weds) for our last gathering before another Big Night Oot at The Captain’s on Saturday.
If you’re thinking about bringing along some new songs (and fresh blood is always welcome) then remember to bring enough for everybody - about ten copies should be fine, allowing for sharing. Keep it to one page. If you think it might be a keeper - ie if you think it might be a candidate for the songbook, then email it to me (Alastair) or Robert, Jason or Lins. Then it can be uploaded to our “Prospects” folder for future replaying. Songs for the songbook should be in the style of songbook: one page, typeface is Verdana, 14pt (or larger), with the chords shown in bold. Chords can in-line, or above the lyric line, but if they’re in-line they should be in brackets.
Try to bear in mind that the song will be played by everyone from beginners to experts. Include the chords for every verse (ie, not “same as first verse”). Keep the chords simple - eg, a D7 will do, and if you prefer D7demented+11 then by all means employ some chord substitution when you play, but keep the chart itself simple for other folk.
The link below is to a template for songs, with some illustration of what we need.
The songbook is meant to be a constant work-in-progress. As new songs come along they can be slotted in, in alphabetical order. Then we can each add the new songs to our loose-leaf songbook, or add them to our tablets. It’s probably about time to weed out some of the losers too.
